A few key tips to keeping your grill going strong:

Invest in a sturdy grill cover. A cover is the #1 way to keep your grill dry, rustless and free of outside elements such as leaves and dirt that can make their way into the burners and cause problems. Weber, Davya, and Vermont Castings, make quality, affordable Grill Covers.

Use a Grill Pan and Clean the grates after cooking. Always use aluminum foil or a grill pan when grilling. When you're all done and your grill cools down to slightly warm, take a stiff wire brush to the grates to keep them clean and shiny. Use brass wire brushes on stainless steel grates and stainless steel brushes on cast iron grills. A helpful tip is to cover the grates with a clean peice of aluminum foil and heat the grill on high for 10-15 min. This will turn all the caked on grease and food into a fine white powder which can easily be brushed off with a Cleaning Brush. When the grill is cool enough to touch, wipe down with a moist towel.Some manufacturers suggest using spray oven cleaner on greasy surfaces to loosen build up if desired, however this is not recommended on all grills.

Inspect your burners often.To keep your burners in tip top shape and to make sure heat is being distributed evenly, inspect your burners for corrosion and damage on a regular basis.

What to check? Check the burner assembly for corrosion damage paying particular attention to the seams along the edges near the burner ports. The seams, or those areas where the metal is folded over in manufacturing, often trap grease and this is where corrosion generally begins.

How do you clean the burners? A good wire brush is always your best bet. For cast iron grills, use a stainless steel brush. For clogged gas holes, use a pipe cleaner or something of the like. Be careful not to use anything too small that could possibly get stuck!
